Former Erwin Owners Contemplating A New Place

Some of us (especially our film guru Rob Christopher) were really sad last month when Erwin, the venerable Lakeview bistro, closed after 18 years in business. As Chuck pointed out when they closed, they hadn't experienced a decline in either quality or crowds, but the restaurant scene had moved on and their brand of farm-influenced hearty American food wasn't quite as unique anymore. Hold on to your hats - they may be coming back.

In an email sent out to friends of the restaurant, owners Erwin and Cathy Drechsler expressed interest in starting over:

"Cathy and I have had some time for deep reflection, post the closing of erwin cafe. We have come to the mutual conclusion that we will not be happy without the creation of a new establishment for our friends and families to eat, meet, and greet!"

They claim to be under "a bit of a time constraint by issues and matters out of our control" - it's not entirely clear what that means. Perhaps a lease issue? In any case, they want feedback from their former customers by Aug. 15. If you loved Erwin and want to see the owners return with a new place, email them at erwincafe@sbcglobal.net.
