As you may remember, August 1 is Mike Huckabee's Chick-Fil-A appreciation day. At least one gay restaurateur isn't going to let that day go without a fight. Hearty, the Lakeview restaurant owned by TV stars/chefs/gay married parents Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, is serving up a fried chicken special to benefit Equality Illinois.

Hearty will be offering fried chicken breast sandwiches, served on toasted buttered buns accompanied by pickles and a side of fries as a special tomorrow. The whole feast will cost $10, and the entire amount (not the amount minus administrative costs, food costs and overhead; every dime) will be donated to Equality Illinois, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of LGBT people in Illinois.

If you're lucky, they'll even serve your sandwich with a rainbow flag. Beat that, Chick-fil-a. Seriously, though, at least some good will come out of this whole Chick-fil-a kerfluffle. Enjoy a great local restaurant and watch your cash go to a good cause.

Hearty is located at 3819 North Broadway.
