Forty-three years ago Woodstock was the music festival that started them all: a muddy mess marred by poor logistics and traffic jams were more than matched by a buoyant crowd epitomizing the “free love” era.

Michael Wadleigh’s documentary of the festival, shot on a $100,000 budget and released one year later, won an Academy Award and helped save Warner Brothers Pictures at a time when the studio considered calling it quits. Woodstock is tonight’s feature as part of Hideout’s “Bike-In Movie Theater” series. Grab a beer at the bar and enjoy the music without having to jump a fence.
