White Sox 8, Angels 6 (10 innings)
Alex Rios helped push the Sox over the Angels in extra innings Friday night. Rios went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two home runs against Los Angeles. He nailed a solo shot in the sixth to put the Sox within one and broke the tie in the 10th inning with a two-run shot that drove in Jordan Danks. A.J. Pierzynski also nailed a three-run shot in the first to give himself a career-high 19 home runs this season and the White Sox an early lead. The Sox remain 2 1/2 games ahead of the Detroit Tigers for the division lead.
The Cubs continue to show rebuilding pains as they fell to the Dodgers easily Friday. Jeff Samardzija had pitched well his last few outings and averaged a 1.91 ERA in his last five starts, but it appears that L.A. had his number Friday. Samardzjia (7-9) pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up five runs and eight hits in that time span. Darwin Barney, who sat out on Wednesday, scored the Cubs' only run in the fifth off a Luis Valbuena double. The Cubs are now 18 games below .500.
