SummerSonic Kicks Off This Weekend

Last summer, Experimental Sound Studio introduced SummerSonic, a three-part concert series showcasing choice experimental acts from right here in Chicago—in fact, a surprisingly solid lineup for only its inaugural year. This year, the event turns two, and it’s returning with an even stronger lineup.
The series will take place the next three Saturdays at ESS headquarters in Andersonville in the studio’s backyard garden. This Saturday’s show presents the kaleidoscopic pop stylings of volcano!, which recently released a new album, PiƱata, and the delightful ditties of John Bellows.
The following installment features the beautiful guitar-play of Victor Villarreal and the folk-rock of Judson Claiborne, and then CAVE and Wume bring their psyched-out Krautrock for the last Saturday of the month.
The music starts at 5 p.m. each show, but arrive at 3 p.m. for some preliminary partying. There will also be suds from New Belgium and Stone Brewing for your drinking pleasure.
SummerSonic is Aug. 11, 18, and 25 at Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N Ravenswood, party at 3 p.m., music at 5 p.m., $10 at the door or $8 for students and members
