While investigators are still searching for a motive in the Sunday shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis. that left six worshippers dead, it was revealed Wednesday that gunman Wade Michael Page wasn't killed by police, as originally reported.

According to authorities, Page died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he was wounded by a cop coming to the aid of another policeman who was ambushed by Page as he tried to assist two Sikh temple members injured in the attack.

Although the dots have been connected between Page and his ties to the white supremacist movement Teresa Carlson, agent in charge of the FBI's Milwaukee office, said it may be weeks, if at all, before they can determine a motive for the shooting or why Page chose the Sikh temple for his actions.

ABC 7 reports that Page's ex-girlfriend, Misty Cook, used to live on the Northwest side, was once arrested on DUI charges and also has ties to white supremacist groups. Federal authorities found a handgun in Cook's apartment after the attack, but she isn't suspected in the shooting and hadn't had contact with Page prior to the shooting.
