An Illinois woman thought she was being pulled over for a traffic stop, but the man in the police uniform pulled a gun and forced her into a nearby cornfield where he sexually assaulted her.

The woman from Sandwich, Ill., was driving near the town of Plano when a blue Ford Crown Victoria switched on its flashing lights and started following her. NBC writes:

The woman said she pulled over for what seemed to be a traffic stop, when the man, dressed in a blue uniform, pulled a mask over his face, pointed a gun at her and forced her into a nearby cornfield where he beat and sexually abused her, a Kendall County Sheriff’s Office report said.

"The victim was seen by a passerby coming out of a cornfield without her pants on," said Det. Sgt. Joe Jasnosz. "That passerby was our 911 caller."

The attack happened during daylight hours on a heavily traveled road. Police say motorists suspicious of unmarked police vehicles should continue to a well-lit public area. Also, one doesn't need to roll the window all of the way down during a traffic stop, and motorists may also ask to see an officer's badge during a stop.

UPDATED (12 p.m. 8/10): Police now say the woman made the whole thing up.
