Morning Box Score: Danks' Walk-Off Propels Sox, Chapman Blocks Cubs

Jordan Danks hit his first career walk-off home run Friday to put the Sox ahead of Oakland. Danks came into the ninth with two outs on the board and sent the first pitch he saw into the stands to break the 3-3 tie. It must have been contagious last night for Danks, as all of the other runs were scored by homers. A.J. Pierzynski, Dayan Viciedo and Alexei Ramirez all homered on Friday after Paul Konerko was placed on the seven day disabled list of a concussion.
It was a slug fest at Wrigley Field as both the Cubs and the Reds had hits in the double digits. The Cubs had 10 hits and 8 runs going into the last of the eighth, but Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman shut down Chicago's rally from behind. But it was the errors that ultimately hurt the Cubs. Brett Jackson, Anthony Rizzo, Wellington Castillo and Starlin Castro, all the Cubs up-and-coming players, erred Friday in the loss to Cincinnati. Castro and Castillo made up for the errors with four RBIs combined, but even with eight total RBIs, the Cubs couldn't help but beat themselves with the lackluster defensive showing.
