Jury selection is set to begin today in the trial of Christopher Vaughn, the Oswego man accused in 2007 of murdering his wife Kimberly; daughters Abigayle, 12, and Cassandra, 11; and son Blake, 8.

Vaughn has long claimed his wife shot him, killed the children and herself while they were pulled over in Chanhannon on their way to a water park in Springfield, but police believe it was Vaughn who pulled over, killed his family, and then shot himself. Investigators later found a magazine article about staging crime scenes in the Vaughn family home; found that Vaughn visited a gun range the day before the murders; and that he was the beneficiary of his wife’s life insurance policy. Vaughn also admitted to cheating on his wife and Will County prosecutors are expected to bring an exotic dancer to the stand who will testify that Vaughn visited her in the days before the killings and lied about his identity.

Vaughn’s attorneys are expected to use the defense that Kimberly Vaughn was depressed and suicidal as a result of prescription medication used to treat migraine headaches.
