Metra riders heading west this evening: prepare for delays. A crane fell on all three BNSF tracks in Westmont, which has led to service delays.

Metra said they're working diligently to remove the crane and restore service and recommend using the Union Pacific West line as an alternate route. For more updates, make sure to check Metra's service updates page.

Update 4:40 p.m.: Here's Metra's latest update:

At this time, we cannot estimate when normal service will resume. We do not expect BNSF trains to operate during rush hour.

We are recommending passengers consider alternate travel options. Some passengers may be able to take the Union Pacific West line and others should consider alternate forms of transportation.

We are not recommending BNSF riders go to Chicago Union Station as BNSF trains will not be running.

Metra said when BNSF service resumes they'll announce it via web, twitter, e-alerts and news media.
