After a two-week hiatus, Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar is getting a head start to celebrating the second anniversary of the renovation that transformed the Bridgeport bar from a dive bar into one of the best bars in the city with a blowout festival of barbeque and music starting 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

Pleasanthouse Bakery started smoking pork butts for what Maria’s owner Ed Marszewski has dubbed “Bridgepork.” Brand BBQ’ Charity Smith will be bringing down some smoky, meaty treats from her Palmer Square restaurant. There will be Cevapcici available and Maria’s regular Saturday night food truck mass will happen in the parking lot. Maria’s is also bringing musical goodness in the form of Deep Sleep, Windbreaker, Songs for Gods and OnYou in the parking lot until 9:30 p.m.

After the festivities in the parking lot wind down the scene shifts to the Co-Prosperity Sphere (3219 S. Morgan St.) with performances by Ken, The Hex and Chicagoist faves Mahjongg.
