Lincoln Park Zoo Welcomes Newborn Titi Monkey

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 21, 2012 7:20PM

This little itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, Bolivian gray titi monkey is the Lincoln Park Zoo's newest zooborn. The three-day-old is the ninth offspring for its parents Delasol, 21, and Ocala, 15, one of the most successful pairs of titi monkeys on record. The mother Delasol is the oldest mother of her species on record. There are about 50 Bolivian gray titi monkeys at zoos in the U.S.

Caretakers don't know the gender of the wee one yet. They've barely gotten a look at him, as it's clinging to mama. According to the Lincoln Park Zoo, titi monkeys are known for being tight-knit, and the whole family pitches in with childcare.

“The baby is spending most of its time nestled in the thick fur on mom’s back, but we do get a glimpse of its little face peeking up now and then,” said Curator of Primates Maureen Leahy. “Dad and the siblings are playfully curious with the new arrival, and the whole group is responding appropriately to the addition.”

You can get a peek at the newest addition at the Helen C. Brach Primate House, where the little fella and his family are on exhibit.
