Lincoln Park Zoo Welcomes Baby Zebra And Wants You To Help Name It

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 24, 2012 7:40PM

This baby zebra is the latest addition to the Lincoln Park Zoo, born early Thursday morning, and holy hell is this thing cute. Mother Adia welcomes her second son after a gestation period of more than a year.

“This little colt is all legs and is glued to mom’s side,” said General Curator Dave Bernier. “Right now he has characteristic brown stripes that will get darker as he grows up, eventually turning black to match the rest of our herd.”

The little guy doesn't have a name yet, and that's where you come in. Head to the Lincoln Park Zoo website to cast your vote for one of the following Swahili names.

  • Hanisi - means “born on Thursday”

  • Akili - means “clever”

  • Kito - means “jewel”

  • Daktari - means “doctor, healer”

Mother and son are in a private enclosure, but you'll be able to see him at the zoo soon.
