Ada Street Hosts BBQ Benefit For Chicago Urban Art Society

2012_08_25_adast.jpg Is it seriously the tail end of summer? We made it through the swelter to August, but if your cookouts have been lackluster and your attention to public arts has been lacking, it’s okay—the folks at Ada Street are hosting an art-meets-food opportunity for you to eat good food and do good before summer’s end.

Local artist Ruben Aguirre will create a street art-inspired masterpiece using Ada Street’s 10' x 10' garage door as his canvas on Tuesday, August 28 at 6 p.m. Chefs Michael Kornick and Zoe Schor will handle the grilling, so you’re free to enjoy the backyard banquet of baby-back ribs, grilled corn elotes, and seasonal veggie skewers. The watermelon Jell-O isn’t even the best part—100 percent of the event’s proceeds will benefit Chicago Urban Art Society.

"We want to engage attendees at a level that will draw attention to local artists," Kornick told Chicagoist by phone. "By inviting the artist to create in the Ada Street space, we hope to introduce him to the community and generate support for local artists' work."

Kornick hopes this will be the first of many events sponsoring Chicago arts at Ada Street. He and partner David Morton additionally support local environmental, community, and cultural nonprofit organizations through their DMK Burger Bar and Fish Bar partnerships.

Tickets are $30 and reservations are available by emailing eboyer@dmkrestaurants.com.
