Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan put gas stations across the state on notice that action will be taken if her office suspects anyone from price gouging over the Labor Day holiday.

The Chicago area has some of the highest gas prices in the country and Hurricane Isaac is expected to drive those prices higher. Madigan said Wednesday her office will keep a close eye on gas prices to determine if any abnormal spikes are the result of an increase of wholesale prices or something else.

Madigan has the right to investigate gas prices where natural disasters like Isaac disrupt supply. Isaac was downgraded to a tropical storm Wednesday as it reached land. Madigan said motorists taking to the roads this weekend should expect higher gas prices.
