One For The Road: Happy Birthday, Fred Hampton Sr.

Civil rights activist Fred Hampton Sr. was born on this date in 1948. Hampton was shot and killed by police during a raid on his Chicago apartment on Dec. 4, 1969. Hampton was the deputy chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, and he was active in the NAACP working mainly with the Youth Council. Raised in Maywood, Hampton studied pre-law at Triton Junior College
