Been boasting lately about your Herculean restraint when it comes to all the tempting pie shops in town? Then it’s probably time for some humble pie. And no, we’re not speaking metaphorically. Food metaphors are just not fair play, especially when you’re famished. Instead, we’re recommending something simple and savory, without a coquettish berry in sight. Specifically, we’re urging you to snag yourself a slice of Hoosier Mama’s 5” BBQ pork pie, which sells for $12 and easily suffices as a delectable meal for two. This is all pie, all meat. No bluster.

The BBQ pork is merely a sign of things to come at Hoosier Mama. As the days grow shorter and cooler weather rouses lustier appetites, the beloved pie company starts rolling out more and more of its meatier creations. But you don’t have to wait for full-on sweater weather to have your BBQ in pork pie form. You don’t even have to don the eponymous pork pie hat, cute as that would be. You just have to stroll up to the Hoosier Mama booth at Green City Market of a Saturday or stop by the shop on Chicago Ave. and grab one before they fly off the shelves. Not that pork flies as yet, though anything, we’re told, is possible. It is nearly the end of Mayan time after all.

So have your pie and eat it too—and then brag about it. It’s so good you won’t be able to help yourself.

Hoosier Mama Pie Company is located at 1618 W. Chicago Ave.
