We knew that some fast food restaurants had secret menus. There were even rumors that Starbucks had a secret menu. But fine dining restaurants in our own town? Apparently they kept things so secret, even we hadn't heard of them. Luckily, Mike Gebert and Chicagoisto Roger Kamholz were a bit more in the know, since they found 19 different (now formerly) secret dishes all over town.

Most all of these are off menu, and made at the discretion of the staff. The list includes everything from a great steak tartare at Urban Union to a fancy greek burger (with kalamata olives, feta crumbles and oven-roasted tomatoes) at Naha. We're definitely going to try to get ourselves some "Smoke" at Allium - scotch presented in a vessel actually filled with smoke for effect. And we were at first sad to learn the mussels at Libertad were off the menu, then instantly overjoyed to find out that they were still available.
