Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has placed his Washington, DC home up for sale, beginning new speculation into his political future.

The congressman’s Dupont Circle townhome is listed for sale at a price of $2.5 million. The nearly 3,000 square-foot home has five levels, four bedrooms, 4.5 baths, five Fireplaces, a sunroom, a rooftop deck with jacuzzi, a one-car attached garage, a patio, and two kitchens. Jackson has been on a medical leave from Congress since June 10 and was recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and gastrointestinal issues stemming from a weight loss procedure in 2004.

Jackson is up for re-election. Earlier this week Rev. Anthony W. Williams, one of Jackson’s opponents in the November election, said the congressman has been absent for too long and should either campaign or resign.

Update 5:35 p.m.: The Sun-Times has the reason why Jackson's townhome is for sale: to cover the medical costs of his treatment. A statement released from the congressman's office read.

“Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations. The Congressman would like to personally thank everyone who has offered prayers on behalf of his family.”
