Jon Cunningham as Jesus in Big Noise Theatre Company's Jesus Christ Superstar

This weekend’s can’t-miss openings on the Chicago stage.

One Name Only
The Black Ensemble Theater is giving music’s famed ladies of soul the reality-show treatment. Not only will you heard the uber-talented performers belt out classics from Aretha, Gladys, Patti, Tina and Whitney, you’ll also get a chance to vote for the winning diva. The show opens on Friday, Sept. 28 and runs through Thursday, Nov. 11. Showtimes are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

No matter your preference, don’t miss this classic rock opera chronicling the last seven days of Jesus’ life. The show runs Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 21. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Okay, so it technically doesn’t open until Tuesday. But regardless, don’t miss your chance to catch the Broadway-bound, Cyndi Lauper-penned musical about a reluctant shoe factory owner and his drag queen sidekick.
