"Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimized." That's what a representative of the Toronto Police Service said in 2011, prompting Torontoites to create SlutWalk to raise awareness of sexual assault and of this kind of slut-shaming that prevents many women from reporting attacks. It spread from Toronto to other cities, and Chicago held its first SlutWalk in June 2011. The event was only supposed to happen once, but given some certain politicians' behavior toward women and rape — cough, cough, Todd Akin — it came back again on Saturday.
