U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms Terry Gainer and Indiana Gubernatorial candidate John Gregg.
Illinois politician Terry Gainer and Indiana gubernatorial candidate John Gregg are among the 2012 nominees for the American Mustache Institute's annual Goulet Award. Urbana billionaire and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khanis also up for the honor. They have their work cut out for them, though. They're up against Illinois native Nick Offerman, aka Ron Swanson.
You can cast your vote now for the Robert Goulet Mustache Award. Remember you're not voting for the best 'stache. Cast your vote for "the person who best-represents or contributes to the Mustached American community over the past year."
Gainer is currently the U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms, but he's also a former Chicago police officer. He has served as the director of the Illinois State Police and Executive Assistant Police Chief, which means he's representing our state with a cop 'stache.
Indiana Democratic candidate Gregg is a hardcore 'stache man. He even uses his mustache in his campaign logo. Gregg sells mustache pins, t-shirts and bumper stickers on his site. We're not sure how much that would help him take down Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, but it sure couldn't hurt. No, Daniels does not have a mustache.
Businessman Khan has a mustache with waxed and twirled edges. That's quite a departure from one of the NFL's most famous mustaches of all-time: Mike Ditka. And did you know that when Khan appeared on the cover of Forbes, he was the first Mustached American on the cover since the early 1980s.
But honestly, who could take down Joliet native Nick Offerman? Then again, Offerman's character Ron Swanson is the real person contributing to the Mustached American community. Outside of Parks and Recreation, the actor and part-time woodworker has appeared clean shaven in public. Blasphemy.
