A temporary détente has been reached for now between Drew Peterson and attorney Steven Greenberg in another bizarre post-trial twist to the Peterson saga.

Peterson asked Will County Judge Edward Burmila for a continuance on his motion to formally dismiss Greenberg from his legal team after the two exchanged words in court. Greenberg wouldn’t tell media what was said between him and Peterson this morning, saying Peterson asked him to keep it between the two of them. This may be the first time one of Peterson’s attorneys didn’t have something to say.

Greenberg and Peterson’s lead attorney Joel Brodsky had been locked in a bitter feud after Peterson was convicted of murdering his third wife Kathleen Savio last month. Greenberg blamed Brodsky for losing the case by calling Savio’s defense attorney Harry Smith to the stand. Smith testified Peterson’s missing-and-presumed-dead fourth wife Stacy told him that Peterson confessed Savio’s murder to her. Brodsky said he fired Greenberg for negligence and being ill-prepared for the trial.

Reached by ABC 7, Brodsky expressed confusion at Peterson’s request for a continuance and insisted that Greenberg was fired by him.
