Today is National Coming Out Day and the NOH8 Campaign released photos of 26 members of Congress who took part in a September photo shoot to coincide with the day.
The Sept. 13 NOH8 on the Hill 2 brings the total number of congressmen to participate in the project to 37. This time, three Illinois Representatives participated: Danny Davis, Mike Quigley and Jan Schakowsky. Quigley's office released a statement on the reasons for his participation.
“I’ve always been a strong supporter of marriage equality for all, so I consider it an honor and a responsibility to draw attention to this cause through unique opportunities like the NOH8 Campaign,” said Rep. Quigley. “I’m proud to reaffirm my support to the LGBT community on National Coming Out Day and promise to continue working to make America truly a place of liberty and justice for all.”
Photographer Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley created the NOH8 campaign as a protest of California's passage of Proposition 8 in 2008. In three years they've taken over 20,000 photos of people who support marriage equality.
