Illinois And Indiana Breweries Have Solid Showing At Great American Beer Festival

Illinois and Indiana breweries made a strong showing at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver this weekend, with Illinois taking 10 medals and Indiana taking seven.

The annual festival, which is put on by the Brewers Association, gave out medals in 84 beer categories to establish the best beer in each style in the U.S. 666 breweries were in attendance, and there were 4,338 competition entries.

Revolution Brewing took a bronze in the American-Belgo-Style Ale for A Little Crazy and a gold in English-Style Summer Ale for Cross of Gold. Piece Brewery won a silver medla in American-style Pale Ale for The Weight. Two Brothers took a silver for South German-Style Hefeweizen for Ebel's Weiss and a bronze for Belgian- and French-Style Ale for Domaine DuPage. 5 Rabbit won a bronze in Fruit Wheat Beer for 5 Lizard Latin-Style Witbier and Goose Island won gold in English-Style India Pale Ale for their India Pale Ale. Brickstone Brewery took gold in American-Style Pale Ale for their Brickstone APA, Desthil took bronze in Fruit Beer for their Strawberry Blonde Ale. RAM Restaurant and Brewery in Wheeling won a silver in the Pro-Am Competition, in which professional brewers team up with homebrewers.

In Indiana, Three Floyds won a bronze in American-Style Pale Ale for Zombie Dust, Sun King took gold in Barley Wine-Style Ale for Johan the Barleywine and Silver in Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer for Pappy Van Muckle, Bier Brewery took Silver in Belgian-Style Abbey Ale for Sanitarium, Upland Brewing Co. took gold in Belgian-Style Lambic or Sour Ale for Sour Reserve, RAM Restaurant and Brewery in Indianapolis took a silver in Field Beer or Pumpkin Beer for their Anaheim IPA, and Mad Anthony took gold in Fruit Wheat Beer for their Ruby Raspberry Wheat.
