2012_10_24_Avocados.jpg Do you love avocados? We mean really love them, not just make the occasional guacamole. If you do, this is the event for you. The Chicago Avocado Takedown is coming in November, and if you want to compete, now's the time to enter.

You may remember other takedowns in the past - our own Caitlin Klein participated in the Chicago Bacon Takedown last month. She didn't win, but she had a heck of a good time. This time around, the takedown is being held on November 17 in conjunction with the Chicago Food Film Fest. There are still spots available for chefs. If you want to get involved, you'll get a whole crate of avocados for free. The only rule? No guacamole! It's just too obvious. But if you think you can turn avocados into something wonderful, now's the time.

Aside from the obvious joys of getting a whole crate of avocados, contestants will compete for a whole raft of prizes including cookware and $500 in cash. There are still a few spots available - eventually, 20 chefs will be competing.

Let's say you don't want to compete. You can also watch, eat and vote. Tickets for spectators aren't on sale yet, but we'll let you know. For more information or to enter, email chilitakedown@gmail.com.
