  • The Shedd Aquarium's baby beluga whale goes public on Friday. The sex has been determined — it's a girl! — but she doesn't have a name yet. The baby beluga was born on Aug. 27, and she's been thriving along with her mother Mauyak. The 8-week-old baby is growing quickly, gaining about 12 to 15 pounds per week. Shedd Members have special viewing hours from 9 to 11 a.m. Guests can see Mauyak and baby starting Friday at 11 a.m. through Wednesday, Oct. 31. After that, they'll be on exhibit full-time.
