The legal troubles for former Mr. Illinois Basketball and Illini basketball player Jereme Richmond continues. Richmond was arrested Thursday and sent to Lake County Jail after testing positive for marijuana Oct. 19. Richmond also failed to comply with his 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. curfew and attend mandatory domestic violence orientation treatment.
Richmond was sentenced to 18 months probation in January stemming from an August 2011 incident where he was arrested with a gun in his car near the home of a woman he may have dated, making threats.
Richmond declared for the NBA Draft last June after one season at Illinois where his off-court behavior overshadowed his skills. He was suspended for the Illini's two NCAA tournament games for violating the school's athletic code and took a one-game leave of absence during the season to attend to personal matters. Richmond was also allegedly involved in a fight with a teammate after a game during the Big Ten tournament.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Jim Newman told Judge John Phillips that Richmond not following through on treatment should be grounds for revoking his probation. Richmond’s attorney, Lawrence Wade, asked Phillips to keep his client out of jail on a 24-hour curfew so that he can have the opportunity to attend the treatment he’s failed to previously. Phillips ordered Richmond held in jail over the weekend and would hear Richmond’s plan to make his appointments.
