We have a soft spot for PBS chefs (as opposed to Food Network personalities) and Ming Tsai is one of our favorites. One of our best friends referred to him as her "imaginary chef boyfriend" for years—we have to admit that he is pretty dreamy. He also writes approachable recipes that let home cooks incorporate new flavors and new ingredients into their arsenal. If you're as smitten as we are, head to Slurping Turtle on Monday to meet the man himself.

From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, Chef Takashi Yagahashi will be hosting a reception for Ming Tsai's new cookbook, "Simply Ming in your Kitchen." For $25, guests get a drink (beer, sake or a cocktail) and appetizers created by the man himself. The cookbook is available for purchase on-site, or bring your own books and get them signed. It doesn't even require reservations—just head on in.

Later that night at Takashi, the two chefs will be teaming up for a 6-course tasting menu. The menu includes a braised 8-Spice lamb shoulder with steamed couscous and a cardamom chocolate cake with lemongrass panna cotta. The meal costs $78 and reservations are required. Call (773) 772-6170 for tickets and more information.
