Martha Bayne and Sheila Sachs, the dynamic duo behind the popular Soup & Bread series at Hideout, are prepping to shake things up a bit in 2013. They aren't showing the cards yet, but they are preparing for the new season with a series of events in November and December that will lead into the first Soup & Bread event at Hideout Jan. 2, 2013.

The big event is set for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Garfield Park Conservatory where chefs from West Town Tavern, City Provisions, Mana Food Bar, and Lula Café (among others) will make soups that incorporate ingredients grown in the Conservatory. Bayne and Sachs will also have a special "hailstone soup" section highlighting the Conservatory's ongoing efforts to recover from last year's hailstorm that severely damaged the greenhouse's glass roofs. There's a suggested donation of $5. (300 N. Central Park Ave.)

On Nov. 17 it's on to the Broadway Armory (5917 N. Broadway), where Soup & Bread will take part in the DIY Trunk Show. They'll be selling copies of the Soup & Bread Cookbook, recipe cards and boxes (courtesy of designer DogTooth), art, aprons, and other surprises. The DIY Trunk Show will be open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

On Nov. 18 Soup & Bread is helping the West Walker Civic Association host their first soup kitchen event, with proceeds benefiting Three Brothers Community Garden. The event will be held at the Irving Park Lutheran Church Gym at Irving Park Road and Harding Avenue. (The church is located at 3938 W. Belle Plaine.)

Finally, it's back to the craft fair circuit with a weekend appearance at the Renegade Craft Fair's Holiday Market, Dec. 1-2 at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse (1419 W. Blackhawk).
