Landmarks Commission Grants Preliminary Landmark Status To Historic Prentice Women's Hospital [UPDATE]]

By Chuck Sudo in News on Nov 1, 2012 10:05PM

The Commission on Chicago Landmarks voted unanimously a few moments ago to grant preliminary landmark status to Historic Prentice Women's Hospital during today's meeting. But the vote is far from set in stone: as of post time officials with Northwestern University are making their case to the Commission for demolishing the Bertrand Goldberg-designed structure in order to build a state of the art biomedical research facility.

We'll update this post with more information as it becomes available.

Update 6:45 p.m.: After testimony by proponents for demolition and preservationists, the Commission reversed its decision and overturned preliminary landmark designation for Prentice.
