FBI, Police Search Will County Forest Preserve; Won't Confirm It Was For Stacy Peterson

2012_11_6_stacypeterson.jpg The FBI and the Illinois State Police searched a wooded area with a fine tooth comb Monday in what they would only say was “part of an ongoing investigation.” But that search attracted the attention of Cassandra Cales, the sister of Drew Peterson’s missing (and presumed dead) fourth wife Stacy.

Officials wouldn’t comment on whether the search of the 400 acre Hammel Woods, near Shorewood, was related to the Peterson case, but a source told ABC 7’s Chuck Goudie they were searching for leads on Peterson’s disappearance. Stacy Peterson went missing five years ago shortly after she told her husband she wanted a divorce and her cell phone showed activity in the Shorewood area around the time of her disappearance. Cales arrived at Hammel Woods after the search was completed and told the Sun-Times she wasn’t informed of the search, which was conducted by boat, helicopter, and on foot with canine assistance.

State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the search turned up nothing noteworthy and it was unlikely they'd return to the scene today to continue.
