We know many of you probably think of her as some sort of frothy pop diva with no depth, but P!nk is actually deserving of your deeper respect. Aside from he impressive pipes, P!nk has shown a willingness to stretch her own boundaries, turning out everything from bubblegummy sleek and shiny Top 40 pop tunes to gritty, confessional numbers that legitimately tug at the heart instead of merely offering a brightly buffed version of emotion. On top of that, while most pop princesses opt to back themselves with a horde of professional dancers to hide their own stuff move, P!nk has no fear literally throwing herself into the throes of dance, proving her formidable chops in that area as well. (For more proof on that, see the video at the end of this post.)
The Truth About Love is her latest album and while it doesn't mess much with the formula she's been gradually honing—the grafting of rock and a dancefloor that fits best into a convertible with its top down—it's one of her most consistent offerings to date. While we maintain most of y'all have underestimated her talents it's hard to deny that even her best albums have more than their fair share of stinkers. The Truth About Love does a good job of keeping things more focused (for the most part), and the deviations are actually kind of interesting. While most of the songs love driving guitars and four-four beats, sometimes she slips in an oddity like "Are We All We Are," which could have been built on a Passion Pit instrumental outtake.
Given her penchant for the hard driving rockers, it should take no one by surprise—though it probably will—that she's tapped The Hives as one of her opening acts, and Chicago is lucky enough to be one of the stops combining the Swedish punk rockers and the rock and roll-hearted singer from Pennsylvania. It's a looooong ways off, but you can get tickets here for that March 9 show.
