Cutler Out, Campbell Will Start For Bears

Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler will sit out Monday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. He suffered a concussion in the second quarter of the game against the Houston Texans. The hit came as he stepped up in the pocket and threw a pass to Devin Hester. He was met by Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins, who delivered a vicious hit under his chin. When Cutler will return is unknown.

Backup quarterback Jason Campbell will replace him, just as he did after Cutler suffered the concussion. In that game Campbell went 11 for 19 with 94 yards passing. Campbell has been a starter throughout his career; split time between the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders. He has started 70 games in his NFL career and has a quarterback rating of 82.6 with a completion percentage of 60.8.

His best year was in 2009 with the Redskins where he threw for 3,618 yards, 20 touchdowns and had a completion percentage of 64.5. He signed a one-year deal in the offseason to serve as a veteran backup for Jay Cutler. The Bears signed Campbell after the 2011 season went to hell in a hand basket when Cutler went down and the unproven Caleb Hanie stepped in.
