Just what every family holiday needs: A politically charged satire. Courtesy Prop Theatre.
Help usher in the holiday with political warring, a tap dance and a whole lot of family drama — sounds like Thanksgiving to us.
Victor Hugo’s somber tale of unrequited love, obsession and poverty in post-revolutionary France isn’t for the musical faint of heart. Catch it before the much-anticipated movie version starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe hits the screen on Christmas day. The show runs through Sunday, Dec. 2.
Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St., 800-745-3000 or online.
Marriott Theatre is putting on what it does best: old-school musical theater. Think contrived plot points, classic Ira Gershwin tunes and a whole lot of hijinks — but the mind-blowing tap numbers alone are worth the trip to the ‘burbs. The show runs through Sunday, Jan. 6.
Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire, 847-634-0200 or online.
If you haven’t had enough family dysfunction and political squabbles come Turkey Day, The Feast will more than satisfy. Set in 2009 amid the healthcare debate, it’s the perfect side dish of satire to get you through the week. The show runs through Sunday, Dec. 16.
Prop Theatre, 3502 N. Elston, 773-539-7838 or online.
