Homicide Suspected In Mysterious Indianapolis Explosion

Indianapolis police say their investigation into the mysterious explosion that killed two and left several homeless is now a criminal homicide investigation. Authorities say they are looking for a white van that had been seen in the area on the day of the blast, and they're offering a $10,000 reward for information.

Authorities had been focusing on a faulty furnace or natural gas as the cause of the explosion, but the amount of damage it caused would've required a sizable leak. However, the gas company did not find evidence of that in or around the home where the blast originated. Now first announcement of a criminal investigation.

The Nov. 10 blast killed a couple in a nearby home: Elementary school teacher Jennifer Longworth, 36 and her husband Dion Longworth, 34. Seven people were taken to area hospitals. At least 80 homes were affected with broken windows, cracked ceilings and bowed-out walls. Officials say about 30 homes will have to be demolished altogether.

The residents of the home where authorities believe the blast originated were not home at the time of the explosion, which was so strong that earthquake sensors 30 miles away picked up the movement.

After the funeral for the Longworths, Indianapolis Homeland Security Director Gary Coons said they are "determining if there are individuals who may be responsible for this explosion and fire." No arrests have been made, and investigators did not mention any suspects.
