Starz announced yesterday that it will cancel Chicago-based series Boss after two seasons. To give the fans an opportunity to see the story-lines properly wrapped up, Starz says they may do a two-hour movie to end the series. “After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with (a third season of) Boss,” said Starz in a statement Tuesday. “We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV.”

Kelsey Grammer played Chicago Mayor Tom Kane in a story that combined the Shakespearean drama of King Lear with the political drama of Chicago history. Grammer's performance shattered our Frasier-esque impressions of the actor in his ruthless portrayal of the mayor that won him the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama.

We closely followed the first season, but frankly, the strange start to the second season failed to keep us as breathlessly tuned in as the first. The show does not portray Chicago in a very positive light, but it managed to capture the city's scenery and attitude more effectively than most television series that attempt to do so. How Mob Doctor has continued past its first episode will never make sense to us.
