Catch Some Zs Tonight At The Empty Bottle

2012_11_Zs.jpg Brooklyn experimental act Zs is mind-blowing in many ways, and we’re not just talking about their free jazz feel and jagged rhythms. The band, though currently comprised of saxophonist Sam Hillmer, drummer Greg Fox (of Guardian Alien), and guitarist Patrick Higgins, has generally been a metamorphose blob since Hillmer founded it more than ten years ago—losing and adding members; at times a duo and at others a six-piece. Their genre is similarly unpinpointable, combining elements of no-wave, neo-classical, prog, psychedelic, you name it.

The band has been on a U.S. tour in support of their recently released box set, Score - The Complete Sextet Works, and they’ve scheduled a stop for right here in Chicago tonight at the Empty Bottle. Admission’s free if you RSVP by 5 p.m. today, otherwise it’s $8 at the door. And the night’s supporting acts are nothing to scough at either: drone trio Kwaidan and post-punks Paper Mice. Until then, here’s a video of Zs live at Brooklyn venue 285 Kent:

Zs play tonight, Wednesday, November 28 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 9:30 p.m., $8 or free with RSVP, 21+
