Last Minute Plans: Half Acre Beer Dinner at 2 Sparrows
By Lorna Juett in Food on Nov 30, 2012 9:30PM
There are many ways to enjoy a glass of Half Acre Beer, it’s found on many tap lists across the city, it’s enjoyed at their new tasting room, and can even be found at Trader Joe’s. So, what would compel a person to head to 2 Sparrows for a Half Acre beer dinner tonight?
First, 2 Sparrows is typically a breakfast and brunch only sort of place, only open in the evenings for special occasions. Chef Greg Ellis’s food is fresh, seasonal, and comforting, and the atmosphere of 2 Sparrows is clean and relaxing. This dinner provides an interesting opportunity to see what Chef Ellis can do outside of the constraints of breakfast and brunch.
Secondly, the menu is packed with seasonal and small batch beers from Half Acre, not the ubiquitous (but totally delicious) options of Gossamer, Over Ale, and Daisy Cutter. You could fight the crowds and taste these beers in their natural habitat at the Half Acre Tap Room, but they don’t serve food. They do allow delivery, but one runs the risk of making a poor judgement call and accidentally pair their Quakerbridge barleywine with deep dish pizza. This may be one best left to the professionals.
Take a look at the menu for tonight, and see if you can come up with a few more reasons to make a reservation:
Half Acre Vallejo
with
Persimmon salad, blackberries, mustard greens, cranberry vinaigrette
Half Acre Haptera
with
Grilled Trout, pickled wild mushrooms, citrus-herb salad
Half Acre Lager Town
with
Smoked Squab, pomegranate BBQ sauce, wild rice
Half Acre Chubstep
with
Braised venison shoulder, roasted mushrooms, dried cherries and granola, smoked turnip purée
Half Acre Quakerbridge
with
Dark chocolate & pistachio baklava
Tickets are $60, not including tax and gratuity. The dinner starts at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (773) 234-2320.
