Chicago police contend a 47-year-old South side grandmother beat and burned her grandchildren and forced them to eat cat food. Goldine Williams is being held on $200,000 bond and was in court Thursday to face two charges of aggravated battery to a child.

Police said the alleged abuse happened on the 1400 block of East 68th Street and that the grandchildren confirmed they were forced to eat cat food. Williams is alleged to have beaten her grandson with an extension cord and a toy, and burned her grandson and granddaughter with a hair iron. She was granted custody of the children in 2008 after DCFS investigated neglect allegations against their mother.
