David Axelrod To Shave Off Mustache On Morning Joe Dec. 7

By Chuck Sudo in News on Dec 3, 2012 2:30PM

One of the most famous mustaches in America is losing its 40-year home come Friday. Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod will shave the soup cooler from his upper lip Dec. 7 on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program after host Joe Scarborough successfully raised $1 million for epilepsy research.

Axelrod originally placed his duster on the line in a bet with Scarborough over whether President Barack Obama would win the states of Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania in last month’s election. Obama won those states handily, but Axelrod said he would still go bare-lipped if Scarborough could raise the $1 million; Axelrod’s daughter, Lauren, suffers from epilepsy. Scarborough kicked off the campaign with a $10,000 donation

For a while it looked as though Axelrod's mustache would be safe, as indicated by a tweet from Axelrod Nov. 29.

A fundraiser hosted by Scarborough in Boston, combined with donations collected by the website Slash the 'Stache helped Scarborough reach the $1 million goal. (President Obama even donated to the Slash the 'Stache campaign.)

Scarborough announced Axelrod would appear live on Morning Joe Dec. 7 to hold up his end of the bet.
