A judge ordered Pitchfork Media to turn over raw video that may show teen rapper Chief Keef holding a gun in violation of his probation. Prosecutors want to use the tape as evidence, but attorneys for Pitchfork say they don't have to turn it over because they are protected by the First Amendment and/or the Illinois Reporter’s Privilege Act.
The 17-year-old Keef, aka Keith Cozart, is on probation for allegedly pointing a gun at a Chicago cop last year. After Keef stirred up controversy for comments regarding the death of rival rapper Lil Jojo in September, Pitchfork decided to retract a video they'd recorded three months prior for their Selector series that showed Keef at a New York gun range.
In October, prosecutors asked for the raw video to prove Keef had violated probation by violating a court order that he not handle a firearm and by not obtaining his GED within the court-ordered time limit. During the appearance in juvenile court, Keef's attorney said the gun range video was "stupid," but said it wasn't Keef's fault "because he was simply listening to advice from adults."
