No one does The Nutcracker like the Joffrey.

The Glass Menagerie

Leave it to the very capable Mary-Arrchie Theatre Company to produce this gritty Tennessee Williams classic about a man remembering a pivotal turn of events that affects his crumbling Southern family. The show plays through Sunday, Jan. 20.

Angel Island Theater, 735 W. Sheridan, 773-871-0442 or online.

The Nutcracker

Sure, you may have seen it a dozen times already, but the incomparable 25th anniversary Joffrey Ballet version manages to make the story seem fresh. It’s just not the holidays without seeing Clara, the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy pirouette their way into a magic kingdom and save the day. The show runs through Thursday, Dec. 27.

Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy, 312-386-8905 or online.

A Klingon Christmas Carol

Some will groan, some will geek out. Either way, the show is popular enough to warrant a recurring production every holiday season. See the Charles Dicken’s classic with an intergalactic spin and spoken entirely in Klingon — with subtitles for the non-Trekkies among us, thankfully. The show plays through Sunday, Dec. 30.

Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark St., 312-848-6327 or online.
