Today's Weather: Act Like We've Done This Before

You could be forgiven if the weather this afternoon is a foretelling of the Mayan Apocalypse, except that's not going to happen. Instead the temperatures are going to plummet, winds will gust up to 40 mph and we stand a chance of seeing the first significant snow in the area in 289 days, all in time to cock up your evening commute; guess we picked a wrong time to have a staff get-together at the Christkindlmarket. It's all part of a winter storm named Draco. (And when did we start naming winter storms? What's next, we begin to name droughts? Derechos? Perfectly sunny days?)
Draco moves into the area just in time to screw with holiday travel. O'Hare International Airport reported over a dozen cancellations Wednesday and that number will easily be eclipsed both there and Midway as the storm bears down on Chicago. After the storm passes, break out the long johns and the dibs—it's going to get cold.
