Au Cheval's Brendan Sodikoff To Open Dillman's Jewish Deli In 2013

What kind of restaurant doesn't Brendan Sodikoff want to own? He has a fancy bar, a smoky french bistro, a doughnut hut, a steakhouse, a french diner and he's announced a ramen restaurant and a barbeque restaurant. Apparently, those are too narrow - Sodikoff told Time Out last week that he plans to open Dillman's, a Jewish Deli, in March.

You know how, when a sitcom has a really popular character, the creators often try to spin off an entire new show around that character? That might be what Sodikoff is going for here; Dillman's is the "Frasier" to Au Cheval's "Cheers" - with the Matzoh ball soup as the star.

Despite the "deli" identity, the restaurant will initially be open only for dinner before moving to a full day of service. There will be a full bar, they're making their own donuts, and the decor sounds like Au Cheval. Even better, Sodikoff plans to encourage people to hang out there during the day with their laptops. If we move Chicagoist food HQ to a Jewish Deli, someone might have to roll us out.
