Chicagoist's Beer of the Week: Metropolitan's 'Dynamo' Copper Lager

Around the holidays, many of us tend to take a break from our busy lives and get back to our roots for a bit. We spend a few days back with our parents or see some old high school buddies, and while it can all seem a bit overwhelming, we're usually glad for the experience afterwards.
This time of year, it's important to remember that we can rely not only on our loved ones, but also on some of our favorite go-to beers. Our recomendation for a beer that you can get all year round, but shouldn't ever forget or take for granted: Metropolitan Brewing's 'Dynamo' Copper Lager. Bready, biscuity malts lend a hint of sweetness and a touch of caramelization to the 'Dynamo', but it still drinks clean and smooth. While the juicy malts take center stage in this brew, there's a subdued hop profile that dances back and forth between spicy and earthy to balance everything out. At 5.8%, the 'Dynamo' is relatively medium bodied, easy drinking, and something that any beer geek should be able to enjoy with his or her grandfather.
When it comes to food, there's not a whole lot that the 'Dynamo' won't pair with. If you want to sit on your couch on Sunday and watch football with a frozen pizza or some Chinese food, 'Dynamo' is a solid addition to your afternoon. It will also go just as well with some roast chicken as it will with a slab of BBQ ribs, spicy Italian sausage, or even a rack of lamb. It really is a beer for the masses, but it's also one that would clean up very nicely and not seem out of place on the table in a fine dining establishment.
With all of the options and crazy offerings in the craft beer world today, sometimes it's nice to go back to something that's simply delicious, not over the top, and that's available all year round for you to drink whenever you want it. Try the 'Dynamo' on tap at Lemming's in Bucktown, Lincoln Station in Lincoln Park, or just pick up a six-pack from your corner store and down a few at home with some good people.
