Because it's The King's birthday, here are a few videos to remind you how Elvis became king.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact Samantha Abernethy at samantha@chicagoist.com

Elvis' more salacious performance of "Hound Dog" from The Milton Berle Show in June 1956. Listen closely to the crowd reaction around 1:00.

"Ready Teddy" and "Hound Dog" on The Ed Sullivan Show in September 1956.

"Jailhouse Rock" from the 1957 film

"Return to Sender" from the movie Girls, Girls, Girls in 1962.

"Viva Las Vegas" from the 1964 film by the same name, one of many feature-length "music videos" Elvis made.

"That's Alright, Mama" from Elvis' "Comeback Special" in 1968. What he was "coming back" from was a string of crappy, formulaic movies.

Also from his 1968 special, Elvis has some fun with "Are You Lonesome Tonight?"

Did you know that the original title for this tune was "Vicious Circle"? Here's 1969's "In the Ghetto."

"Suspicious Minds" from Aloha in Hawaii in 1973. This was the first worldwide satellite telecast by an entertainer. We wonder if the woman who wiped the sweat off his brow around 0:40 ever washed that hand again.
