Tonight's Bowie Ball Gets Goosed

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Jan 8, 2013 6:40PM

2013_01_bowie_ball.jpg Local DJ Heaven Malone is throwing a birthday party for David Bowie at Rainbo Club tonight. Little did he know that the reclusive Thin White Duke would help spike up the occasion by announcing he's coming out with his first new album in a decade while simultaneously releasing a new single at midnight. It appears Malone's Bowie Ball is suddenly something more than an excuse to help folks remember Bowie's relevance!

David Bowie has never gone out of style, and his years in relative seclusion have only made him even more popular. We saw him on his last tour, and while we believed he was at the height of a new creative renaissance, much of the audience was oldsters looking to relive their own glammy glory years. With last night's announcement it's fairly obvious that a whole new generation is now hungry for the man, so expect tonight's party to be filled with the young and sexily androgynous. We would have recommended attending tonight's event regardless of last night's news — we are among the few that actually like every period of Bowie's work — but now that we see just how sexy the kids are still finding him we expect tonight's Ball to be less head bobbing and more body bobbing. Who knows, maybe we'll even go home with a little glitter in our clothes?

Bowie Ball is tonight, January 8, at Rainbo Club, 1150 N Damen, FREE, 21+
