Police say a 19-year-old Milwaukee man accidentally shot and killed his 15-year-old sister during an argument over a cellphone video game.
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, police found Brendalyz Morales sitting in a chair, shot in the forehead when they arrived around 4 a.m. Tuesday. At the scene, Miguell Morales-Rodriguez told police, "I shot my sister. I killed my sister."
Morales-Rodriguez told police they were "having a dispute over a video game that they were playing on his phone," and "he was asking his sister for the video game and was holding the gun in his hand, which was pointed at her."
Morales-Rodriguez claimed he dropped the gun, and it fired, but investigators told him that was impossible. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes:
In subsequent interviews, the defendant said he had dropped a gun and it fired, striking his sister, then that he had pressed the magazine release button, and the gun fired, striking his sister, and finally, that he had been pointing the gun at his sister, with his finger on the trigger, when he touched the magazine release button it caused his finger to pull the trigger.According to the complaint, detectives determined the gun was in good working order and that pressing the magazine release could not have caused it to fire.
Morales-Rodriguez has been charged with second degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon.
