A Herd Of Paper Cranes Takes Wing In Logan Square

By Chris Bentley in News on Jan 12, 2013 10:00PM

Residents of Logan Square have a new neighbor: a giant origami-style crane at the corner of Logan Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue.

Felix Jung, who runs avoision.com, noticed the cloth construction while running errands just before New Year’s, and got the scoop on its construction.

Evidently the crane is the work of musician Sima Cunningham and some of her friends. Since it went up on Dec. 29, the sculpture has inspired passersby to hang their own paper cranes in colorful strings along the yard’s fences. Apparently Cunningham encourages the public to write down their wishes for the new year on their creations, somewhat along the lines of the Japanese legend of the thousand paper cranes.

When I last checked, a herd of cranes had started to take shape. We may be nearly two weeks into 2013, but it’s never too late for a little good luck.
